Boss Type: Mariel Hummerway To The Top
Have you ever been in a similar job as your boss and then – all of a sudden – a few rugburns later she is promoted? Some people have to hone their social skills in order to work their way up in life. Others use, well, um… perhaps you should just read this story submitted by Natasha:
I had a boss who started as a seasonal employee, but within a month of starting, she was in a live-in relationship with her supervisor’s boss. Then, when that supervisor in the middle left (who wouldn’t???), guess who moved into the permanent supervisory position – another step up the ladder! She must have used up all of her people skills in landing her man, because she was woefully bad at healthy work relationships. Her approach went back and forth between “buddy-buddy-we’re-all-best-pals” and condescending “communication-is-a-one-way-street-and-your-way-is-wrong”. She also left nasty coffee cups in our work area over days off so that we could come back to the aroma and visual treat of moldy, sour coffee. Lemon, Lemon, Lemon!
Natasha, perhaps you can see your boss in this cartoon:
