Can I be your friend?

Boss Type: Friend Wannabe

It’s nice to have a friendly boss. But, every once in a while, you get a boss that desperately wants to be everybody’s friend.

I once had a boss that would constantly seek afirmation from his staff. In order to be considered “one of the crew,” he would sit on the edge of our desks, join us in the lunchroom, and run after us as we left work. I used to call him Chester – after Chester the dog who would run after and worship Spike the dog in Looney Tunes cartoons.

In the video below, you can see Chester at his finest (we would have loved to react like Spike, but we surely would have lost our jobs). Note that in this video, Sylvester the cat appears to say a bad word…

Not only would our “Chester the boss” follow us around and want to be social after hours, but he would also make up words, thinking he was hip and cool.

He liked to say the word beverage.

A lot.

As a verb.

As in, “Hey! Are you cool cats going to be beveraging tonight? ‘Cuz I’m planning on beveraging as well.”

News flash: using ‘beveraging’ as a verb only makes you sound like an extra from the movie A Night at the Roxbury.
